All of the puppies go through socialisation. Special socialisation plans are build for each litter. Please see below how some parts of socialisation look like:

Week 1
Mother and pupies stay together. The only thing you have to supply them with is safe enviroment.

Week 2
Puppies still stay with their mother.

Week 3

Puppies still stay with their mother. This week special exercised must be introduced. Those are exercises of membraine, that emilimate motion sickness in dogs. First seeing and hearing stimuluses must be introduced at this stage.

Week 4

Puppies start to explore. New hearing, seeing and sniffing stimuluses must be introduced

Week 5
Puppies meet different people (sometimes strange people) and are introduced to different strange sounds and articles.

Week 6
This week the work on “enriched enviroment is continued”, Still puppies meet surrounding, different textures and noises.

Week 7
Here positive reinformcement training begins. It is all done expecially for the puppies so they get to know what does the positive reinforcement training is. We teach them how to sit, lay down and give a high five:)
At the training with their new owners they can skip that part as they are already trained;)

Week 8

We continue the training and meet different people, hear strange sounds and many many things

Socialisation in practice 2

Stories of the first litter puppies and our ways of socialization:

We were born on 11-th May. Oh it was a loooong night! It was very cozy in mom’s belly but here – outside is so much better! Our mom says that we will open our eyes within a few days. She Keeps telling us how beautiful this world is. We can hardly wait for this moment. She also told us not to be afraid because at the beginning we will only see through a “white fog”, but we can not wait anyway!
Here are our pictures as one day old puppies.

Halo to ja!

O rrrraaanyy!

What is happening to us now? Lady who takes care after us put a colorful bands on our necks. She is weighting us every day, so she knows that we put on weight just fine. If we do not – or even worse – if we lose on weight, she has the special milk ready for us. Mummy’s milk however, is just the best and the healthiest milk ever! It boosters our immune systems and protects our organisms until we get our vaccinations.

Pani waży!

We are 7 days old now. We grow very fast and strong. Some of us already try to stand up on their own feet! They are still week but as they say – practice makes perfect! The Lady took some photos of us today.

Since we are 3 days old, the Lady does something strange with us. We do not understand a bit of it, but mummy tells us that it is for our own good. She tells us that it is for us to develop better and she says that such early stimulation (of course we can hardly understand)
* will improve cardio vascular performance (our heart rates)
* will stronger our heart beats,
* will stronger our adrenal glands
* we will have more tolerance to stress, and greater resistance to diseases

For us it simply means that we are lifted, tickled with a q-tip and other fun things. We do not make a fuss of it – since it is for our own good…

We start to control our bowels ourselves so the Lady takes us to the newspaper bathroom, as soon as we wake up. She teaches us where to go when we want to pee. We do not quite understand that yet but it certainly helps to keep our bedroom clean and dry. After all our mummy does not catch up with us anymore, the way she used to. We have to take some responsibilities too!

The Lady clipped our claws today. She explained us that we hurt our mummy already and we may as well hurt each other. We did not feel a bit of clipping – we were too much concentrated on our delicious breakfast.

WOW! The Lady put us on a scale and guess how much do we weight?? We are all above 1 kilo (some of us are smaller 1,1 and some are bigger 1,25). All together we weight above 11 kilos.
The Lady gave us worming treatment today. Well we did not fuss too much. Something different than milk – finally. We can’t decide yet if we liked it or not, but mummy tells us that there are better and tastier things waiting for us when we grow up a little bit more.
We got a bigger house too!!! The one with a puppy door where we can get in and out whenever we want to (of course when the door is open). Mummy can jump in from the other side too. Ohhhhh life is great!

The Lady often uses this specific word, and we finally seem to get it. “SOCIALIZATION
The Lady says that during this specific period of time the most important are: contacts with our mom, siblings and people. So she shows us different objects and we are allowed to jump on them, go underneath or climb. This is so much fun!

We also listen to different sounds. Vacuum-cleaner, squeaky toys and even the real storms! In this time of the year – there are lots of them, especially in the mountains. Storms are pretty nice – we like them because this is the time when we get tasty treats. The Lady says that it is done for us so we are not afraid of storms in future.
The Lady teaches us that transportation cage is ok. We can always find there great treats. The Lady tells us that it is important for us to get used to it as we might see it again in our new homes.
This is fantastic time – time of exploration!
The Lady says that this special period will last few weeks and she keeps on repeating (quoting one man) how important this period is for us: “All events that happened, as well as those that did not happen will shape dogs behavior forever” (trans. Edyta Gajewska) S. Coren “How Dogs Think. Understanding the Canine Mind”
